Growing up mixed race, and as the child of a sibling who emigrated from South Asia to the United States, it was so difficult to connect with my South Asian family. The experience of being South Asian American is distinct, and to be Asian American means to carry multiple histories, cultures, languages, and so much more in your bones. Our Stories is a beautiful, compelling, eye-opening, and grounding collection of exactly that - our stories as South Asian Americans. The thoughtfulness poured into the process reads through the words on the page, and the diversity of experiences is reflective of how breadth and depth of our identities. As a child who lives through the Islamophobic aftermath of 9/11, as a child who lives through 1/3 of my heritage country being underwater, as a child who lives through generational trauma and generational survival, to see my story reflected across Our Stories was a healing gift I did not anticipate. Thank you so much to the team who organized this invaluable collection!
