Description

By: John Carey

Date: 1813 (published) Philadelphia

Dimensions: 7.75 x 9.75 inches (19.5 x 24.75 cm)

This delightful little map of the northeastern United States encompasses the region north of Pennsylvania. extending from the watershed of the St. Lawrence River to Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair.

Despite incorporating 'part of Canada' in the title. the map offers limited detail on the British possession. save for the inclusion of Quebec. the delineation of a few rivers. and the geographic distinction between Upper and Lower Canada. The map focuses more on the current state of development and settlement in the eastern United States. featuring many growing metropolises such as Portland. Boston. Providence. New York. and Philadelphia to name a few.

The northern border of the District of Maine is delineated along the notable Green Mountain range. which extends almost the entire length of the map. Additionally. other ranges such as the Blue Mountains and Alleghenies are labeled and illustrated using hachure. Providing a distinctive perspective. this map presents a glimpse into one of the most densely populated regions of the newly independent United States of America during the early 19th century.

Condition: Map is in A condition. with no holes or tears. offering a fine print impression on evenly toned paper with ample margins on all sides for framing.
