An original chromolithograph view of St. Petersburg. Russia as it would have appeared in the late 19th century. The view of St. Petersburg is oriented south with Peter and Paul fortress appearing near the center within the Neva River. The relatively young city was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on 27 May 1703 on the site of a captured Swedish fortress. At the time of printing. St. Petersburg was the capital of the Russian Empire until it would be moved to Moscow in 1918.
This view was one of sixteen depictions of international cities that appeared in William Collins's The Complete Atlas. Consisting of One Hundred and Twenty Maps of Modern. Historical. Classical. and Physical Geography. published out of Glasgow in 1878.
Condition: Print is in A condition presenting a vivid image on clean paper with full margins on all sides.
