This map. oriented SW. depicts Asuncion. the capital city of Paraguay. as it appeared in the early 19th century. Felix de Azara was an engineer and naturalist who spent considerable time in South America. On his return to Europe he published a number of works. including maps such as this one of Asuncion.
The map is highly detailed showing longitude and latitude. and locations of streets and all major buildings. The names of these buildings are in a legend coded with letters from the Latin alphabet. A – Q. A forested area is shown beyond the city. and the Rivery Paraguay is depicted flowing along the entire length of the city.
Condition: This map is in B condition with damp staining and foxing. Map would respond well to restoration.
