Original hand colored etching from Plates illustrative of the researches and operations of G. Belzoni in Egypt and Nubia by Giovanni Battista Belzoni. Plate was etched by A. Aglio based on a drawing by S. Belzoni. Originally Published in London in 1820 by John Murray.
Plate 20 depicts a temple encountered on the trek to Berenice (Baranis). an ancient seaport on the coast of the Red Sea.
As many as eight colours are used on one plate for the coloured illustrations. and the colouring is skilfully done (Abbey). This was the first English work of any importance to use lithography (Blackmer). (Abbey. 268; Blackmer. 117).
Condition: Print is in very fine condition showing vibrant color on clean paper with wide margins.
