This interesting territorial map of Iowa was published within less than a year from the formal admission of the former territory to the Union in December of 1846.
Thirty one counties are named. with the remainder of the state named according to the indigenous tribes which inhabited them. including Sauks and Foxes. Iowas. and Pottawattamies. River systems. including the Mississippi are depicted. and the few small towns and settlements of the day are named. Mitchell maps predating 1850 are becoming increasingly hard to find on the market.
Condition: This map is in B+ condition. Minor separations. some of which slightly enter the image. have been repaired with archival material on the verso.
